One of the best ways of understanding how a social group works is to follow the linkages between participants and non-participants who are closely tied to multiple group members. Suppose you are wanting to understand the leadership structure of a given group (let's say, for our example, the fanbase recently galvanized to campaign for ABC's Romantically Challenged and Alyssa.com updates. As this group is decentralized and self generating, it might seem unlikely that any leadership structure exists at all, however using twitter analytic tools, we can quickly see that many cross linkages exist.
